West Africa 4: The Gambia, Senegal, Western Sahara, Canary Islands, and Morocco
In April, 2012 we concluded this Epic Voyage with Lindblad along the West coast of Africa from South Africa to Morocco, stopping in 17 countries in five weeks. We docked in Banjul, The Gambia and had a boat ride up the Gambia River and a visit to a batik factory. When we arrived in Dakar, Senegal we were taken by boat out to Gorée Island, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, known for the slave trade and the "Door of No Return." Back in the modern capital city we visited a sand painter artist and a very colorful fisherman's beach.
After two days at sea we docked at Dakhla, Western Sahara where we were driven in 4WD vehicles out into the White Dunes for lunch in Bedouin tents. The next stop was Tenerife, Canary Islands where we had a nice tour of the island. The ship finally docked in Agadir, Morocco, its final destination on this cruise. All passengers were bused from there to Marrakech, Morocco where we had a tour and the Farewell Dinner Stylia Palace before spending the night at a hotel before flying home. This ended a fabulous trip, which was very enlightening.
