Singapore, Borneo and Camp Leakey

This trip started in Singapore Sept. 18, 2014 where we boarded the National Geographic Orion (their newest ship) to sail east then make four stops on the west side of Borneo, Indonesia. The most exciting and notable were the stops at the Tannjung Puting National Park and Camp Leakey. These areas are special preserves for Orangutan research and rehabilitation so they can be reintroduced into the wild. Dr. Birute Galdikas, who has been working there since the 1970s, was with us on the whole voyage and provided a vast amount of information during her lectures. Seeing how special she was to the orangutans on our visit was emotional. The trip ended in Bali where we said our good-byes to new friends and flew home.
