January 22 - February 3, 2013 we took the Cuba: A Bridge Between Cultures trip with Grand Circle Foundation. This was a "People-to-people" approved trip out of Miami. The first three days we stayed in Old Havana at the Hotel Saratoga, and the last two nights at Hotel Nacional. The trip consisted of many visits with interesting people and places. We drove from Havana to Cienfuegos, on the southern coast of Cuba where we stayed at the Hotel La Union. Here we visited many artists and enjoyed several concerts and performances. As we prepared to leave we enjoyed the local parade to celebrate José Marti’s birthday. From Cienfuegos we drove further east to Trinidad along the southern coast where we stayed at Hotel Ronda. It is a UNESCO World Heritage city and so interesting with its cobble stone streets and colonial architecture. Again, we visited interesting people doing everyday jobs. We also enjoyed lunches at newly opened paladars, private restaurants, in family homes. We had a one-hour visit to a beach resort after visiting a coffee farm.
