King Penguins on South Georgia Island |

On South Georgia Island there are large rookeries of King Penguins. When we were there in late October, the previous year’s chicks (called Oakum Boys because of their brown fluffy feathers) were almost full-grown. By the end of the summer season, in February, they will have their adult plumage and be ready to take to the sea. When we were there, however, they were still being fed by their parents and were very demanding. These videos give a quick view and sounds of the huge colony of the Kings.
