Pentecost Island in Vanuatu

Pentecost Island is in the island Republic of Vanuatu in the western Pacific, east of Papua New Guinea. In 2004 we took an adventure cruise from Fiji through Vanuatu and on to Papua New Guinea, ending in Guam. The most interesting and unique stop was on Pentecost. They are known for their "Land Jumping" where they build a tower, cut vines to tie around their ankles and jump off the high platforms. If they do it right, their head will just touch the ground. They were the original bungee jumpers. Our timing was perfect to be able to see this unique ceremony to celebrate the yam harvest.

Please Note, the content may not be appropriate for the young as it shows the natives in their original attire, or lack of clothing. This video uses Paul's still pictures and authentic audio.
