Truffles, Cheese and Pasta

A Day in the Life of an Umbrian mountain village: Truffle Hunting

This very special day started with a windy drive way into the hills of Umbria to visit an old farm where we had a chance to visit a family who made their living hunting truffles and raising sheep for their wool, milk for cheese, and lambs. Although it had been raining, the weather cleared some while we were out stomping around  the fields following the truffle hunting dogs. They did not disappoint, and came up with about four truffles of about 1-2 inches in diameter. The next stop was a field with sheep where we were served some delicious scrambled eggs topped with the fresh grated truffles. Mmmm.

Back at the farmhouse the lady of the house made a large batch of fresh pasta for our lunch. After the delicious large meal we made a stop to see the new baby donkey before heading back down the mountain. Below is a short video of the day's events.
