West Africa 1: South Africa, Namibia, Angola and Congo
In March, 2012 we, Paul and Grace Pitzer, embarked on an Epic Voyage with Lindblad Expeditions on the National Geographic Explorer, along the West coast of Africa from South Africa to Morocco, stopping in 17 countries in five weeks. The trip was made even more special by traveling with Lindblad photographer friends, Jack and Rikki Swenson, and National Geographic photographer Jay Dickman.
Before starting the cruise we spent a few days at Boulders Beach photographing jackass penguins, then joined the group in Cape Town, South Africa. We made two stops in Namibia. From the first stop we visited Luderitz, Namibia, a German town now being overtaken by the dunes, and Kolmanskop, The second docking was in Walvis Bay, Namibia for two days where we had a bay cruise and visited the township of Swakopmund. Moving north we docked in two cities, Lobito, Angola and Luanda, Angola. We then made a short stop in Pointe Noire, Congo before continuing north along the coast.
West Africa 2: Gabon, Sao Tomé and Principe, and Cameroon
West Africa 3: Benin, Togo, Ghana, Liberis, and Sierra Leone
West Africa 4: The Gambia, Senegal, Western Sahara, Canary Islands, and Morocco
